Vote Bank strategy

Our present economy is riddled with many complex issues such as vote bank and funding of political parties by big businesses. Big businesses want to oblige political parties as well as the bosses of such parties so that many issues pending with government are settled amicably. Almost every political party expects to get funds from businesses big, medium and even small. That keeps their mutual relations on better footing. In return, political party leaders expect special favors from these businesses and get finance for their many private activities. In many ways than one, both political leaders of various parties on one side and business magnets on other side continue to riddle each other and that keeps balance in their relationship. In many situations, some powerful businesses dictate terms to political party high commands to accept some decisions in their favor for that they pay the leaders, what we may call payola or hafta in local terms. Reliance is notorious for this style of working with political parties ever since Congress party was in power. Many experts in this subject say that the quick rise of Reliance during Congress party rule is doe to this. These business monsters keep on favoring both ruling party and opposition. During Congress rule, we had favored license raj to promote some favorable businesses as against its rivals. Import licenses were issued to those who paid payola and license policy was used to favor some as against their rival businesses. Similar tactics were used in export businesses.
Government is one big business house ever since it has entered in so-called welfare activities. These welfare activities involve very big business opportunity for many middle level and small businesses. Payola and side-by-side corruption are part of that economic activity. This also involves bureaucrats of various levels. They also want to benefit along with their political counterpart. To get business from government agencies involves much of these activities and the whole activity becomes much complicated and full of unhealthy economics. We also note that too much expectations of some political leaders as well as bureaucrats has caused loss of quality in work because the payola takes away much of money and less funds remain to do work. Result of such high-level corruption is bad roads, bad dams and bad canals, defective pipe work and many such activities.
Import, export, contracts for welfare activities, development plans, other economic policies and such other involve these business monsters in so many ways that controlling that or to discipline that becomes very difficult since too many cooks are engaged in that. As we know the saying, "Too many cooks spoil the brew". Something like that happens when interests of too many parties along with those of the bureaucrats work in many of these government activities.
In next post, we shall try to know why political parties need so much money.
