Vote Bank strategy -2

We all know that politics is a business and as we also know that every business needs money, political parties are no exception to this rule. We should also note that there is tremendous analogy in religious priesthood and political leadership. We should try to understand them so that we can understand many underlining currents those regulate financial activities of a religious priesthood and political leadership. Interestingly we also notice that both these businesses are yet not brought under GIS!

We should not expect that these two businesses would ever come under GIS. If government ever does it, which will put both these businesses is big jeopardy. Where money they need, we should see to get to its roots. To operate a political party they have to develop an establishment such as an office place, party workers, other running expenses, the party has to pay for other expenses incurred when they hold meetings, processions, preparing of banners for publicity, occasional advertisements in periodicals or on TV channels. Every occasion a political party arranges need money to make it feasible. Some experts say the capital requirement of a political party is at times much more than that of a multicrore business. For a business there are set methods to arrange for its capital. There is no such arrangement for a political party. Most used method today these political parties use is that of donations from private people, big, medium and small businesses. This makes the political parties come under obligation of those who finance political party. As against that, obviously these financing businesses expect some special favors from that political party. This has been the style in the working of all political parties.

Funds required for contesting elections, they need additional funds to appease voters. Two types of voters we notice. Voters, who study working of the party and its contestant and on merits they, cast their votes. Other type cares too hoots for working of the party and its contestant; they sell their voting right for a price. May be this is so because of poverty. In India, this second type is more experienced. Our elections are controlled by these votes since the number of such voters is very high. Therefore, political parties need endless money to appease these irresponsible voters. Every party has to cater to that need and unless they provide for that, they have no chance of standing anywhere in the election business. Political parties are in constant search for fundraisers. Those workers who do well in raising funds have better chance in the cadre of party high commands. That is why; politicians are constantly engaged in developing friendly contacts with such money lords who shall provide funds to buy votes. Corruption is one side effect of this phenomenon. These money lords take full advantage of the situation and demand facilities against these funds. They get better choice is the licenses for imports and exports and other financially lucrative spots. At times, these demands are too bothering to sincere politicians because they are doing unjust to many others. Nevertheless, these unjust demands are completed as against the money they give to win elections. This part of election economics bothers the high commands of all political parties.

To this one politician late Mr. Pramod Mahajan invented a scheme. According to that if their party namely, Bharatiya Janata Party (Paksha) comes in power they will divert government funds allocated for various projects coming under welfare schemes to appease these greedy and irresponsible voters. They will be provided with many common needs such as affordable housing, free electricity connections, paying them free money by crediting it into their accounts. By such favoritism, Mahajan felt that the voters will be obliged and they will surely vote to BJP. If we see various economic schemes for these so-called poor voters, we can understand that present Modi regime is implementing Mahajan plan to appease voters. In present scenario we see that this plan is, giving some results on many elections those took place after Modi came in power.

In next post, we shall see effects of this novel plan.
